Life’s journey is taken day by day, but certain days mark monumental milestones in someone's life—and we truly believe they deserve to be captured. A Quinceañera or Sweet Sixteen is more than just a celebration or a gathering among family and friends; it is an acknowledgement of all the work this individual has put in to become the person they are, and a reflection of the family values they hold.
We had the absolute honor of capturing this Quinceañera session and had such a wonderful time bringing her Princess and the Frog theme to life! The breakdown of our coverage for these milestones often starts with "save the date" photos, which can be used for invitations and greeting stands during the party.
We shot this session down near the University of Tampa (UT) and Henry B. Plant Park in downtown Tampa. We love shooting at this location because it's a beautiful park that offers a stunning downtown Tampa backdrop without being overly crowded with foot traffic.
Starting with the Grand Entrance
We kicked off the session by capturing that iconic full-frame shot to showcase her gorgeous gown. This area of UT is perfect for these wide shots because the grand stairs lead right up to the subject, creating a fantastic background. This spot can sometimes have a bit more activity, so we make sure to shoot at a time that is respectful to everyone around. If there happen to be people in the background—no worries! We will remove them in post-processing so the focus stays entirely on you.
Details, Portraits, and Movement
From there, we transitioned just to the left of the main entrance to capture some intimate shots off to the side of those grand stairs. This is where we dive into detail shots, additional close-up portraits, bring in family members, and incorporate some spins to get wonderful, dynamic action shots.
Transitioning to the Greenery
After wrapping up near the museum entrance, we walk deeper into the park area to capture portraits framed by lush greenery. This creates a lovely visual transition from the classic brick foundation of the UT campus to a softer, natural landscape. We love giving our clients options during their sessions, which is why we always try to hit at least three distinct visual zones within a single shoot. The vibrant greenery works beautifully with color theory, making dresses pop against the natural background.
Wrapping Up by the River
To finish the session, we head toward the Hillsborough River, which splits UT and downtown Tampa, to take some of our absolute favorite shots. This area offers the iconic downtown skyline paired with red brick paths and classic stone pillars. Here, we focus on wide shots that frame both the river and the city.
This section also features the gorgeous pillar staircase, which is so much fun to interact with. By mixing high and low angles, we love playing around with perspective to create that "shock factor" in our images. This tends to be the most fun portion of the shoot because the Quinceañera is fully warmed up, completely relaxed, and ready to create amazing photos!
Bringing the Theme to Life
We always recommend bringing a few personal items or props that tie into your theme. It adds wonderful variety to the gallery, and these creative prop shots usually end up being some of the cutest and most fun moments of the session.
