Top seven tips for a stress-free wedding day
How to have a stress free wedding
Wedding days are naturally high-stress, but the truth is, this should be the best day of your life. As wedding photographers, we’ve quite literally seen it all. Below are our biggest takeaways from behind the lens, put together so you can actually enjoy your day exactly the way it was meant to be. No paywalls, no newsletter sign-ups, just raw honest information for you to consider.
Hire a Professional Wedding Planner
We’ve shot enough weddings to see the exact moment dread falls over a couple’s faces when things start going sideways. Yes, Aunt Jennie is fantastic and wants to help, but unless she has actual wedding experience it might be overwhelming for her, The last thing you want is that constant thought of something going wrong or needing to ‘make sure’ this was done. This is your day. You’re going to have a million things on your mind, and managing inevitable wedding mishaps should not be one of them. Hire a professional to handle the chaos behind the scenes so you can actually focus on being celebrated.
Prepare for the Florida Weather
Let’s face it—Florida weather is wildly unpredictable. Preparing for the worst-case scenario ahead of time gives you invaluable peace of mind. Parasol Umbrellas: These are a game-changer. They offer immediate shade to keep you cool, and they doubleas an incredible prop for creative, editorial shots. There are plenty of affordable multi-packs online for you andyour bridesmaids. Portable Fans: We always carry a fan in our gear bags for you to use during quick breaks, but having a few of your own on hand will make a massive difference in keeping your makeup fresh and your energy up.
Opt for a First Look
If you’re dreaming of that traditional aisle moment where your partner sees you for the first time, we completely get it and fully support you. But if there’s one piece of advice we give over and over again, it’s to do a First Look. Not only do you get a private, intimate segment of photos together, but you also get your cocktail hour back. Knocking out your portraits before the ceremony is a massive power move. Once the ceremony is over, you can actually head straight to cocktail hour, grab a drink, and hang out with your guests. (Bonus tip: If you want to skip it with your spouse, doing a first look with parents, siblings, or your kids is a beautiful alternative).
Master the "Photo Blitz"
You two are the main event. Everyone is going to want a photo with you—from Nan-Nan to the uncle who hit the open bar a little too hard. We love taking photos, but when guests see us following you around, they will inevitably stop you to grab a quick picture. This completely stalls your timeline and quickly becomes exhausting for you. The best way to handle this is a Photo Blitz. We set a timer (usually 3 to 5 minutes) and run through tables or groups to get those casual shots fast. The two best times to trigger this are right after the ceremony (if you did a First Look) or immediately before dinner is served at the reception.
Commit to an Unplugged Ceremony
No matter how prepared we are as your media team, Grandma leaning halfway into the aisle to snap a picture is the fastest way to block the perfect shot of your ceremony. Have your planner coordinate with the DJ or Officiant to make an explicit announcement before things kick off. Ask your guests to keep devices completely put away, stay seated after the processional, and never lean into the aisle. You’re paying for professional coverage; let your guests just be present in the moment.
Utilize Your Vendors' Networks
Once wedding planning starts, everything moves fast. From locking down a venue to vetting individual vendors, it gets overwhelming fast. Lean on the team you’ve already hired! We maintain a curated list of preferred vendors we love working alongside. When your team already has established chemistry and knows how each other works, your wedding day runs seamlessly. Ask us for our vendor list and check out our venue guides to jumpstart your planning with people who align with your vision.
End with a Private Last Dance
The wedding day flies by in a blur of conversations, music, and timelines. Sometimes you just need to slow down and take it all in. A private last dance allows you to do exactly that. While your coordinator and DJ are setting everyone up outside for your grand exit, the room clears out. No guests, no photographers, no distractions—just you and your spouse sealing the night together. Once you’ve had that final quiet moment to decompress, you head straight out the doors and right into your send-off.
